The Greek Community Offers its Members:
Joining a fraternity or sorority at Tulane is a unique experience in which diverse individuals are able to come together to create a special bond that surpasses any local student organization; it is a community that stretches across the nation and over many years of tradition. It offers academic support, genuine brotherhood/sisterhood, countless leadership and philanthropic opportunities, lasting friendships, and so much more.
The Office of Fraternity & Sorority Programs offers Greek members: one-to-one advising, leadership programs, a quarterly newsletter (The Greek Wave), academic support and recognition, annual awards, intramural sports, help with recruitment efforts, assistance with event planning & management, as well as access to all types of campus resources. The Office is currently researching new ways to engage its members and create increased levels of rewards to groups that set standards of excellence for the community.
For many students, becoming Greek helps one become part of a smaller community within the greater Tulane community. Being able to walk around campus and recognize smiling faces helps to create a unique and special college experience that will never be forgotten. Anyone who has gone Greek will tell you that it was the greatest decision of his or her college career.

Joining Tulane Fraternities and Sororities:
The Tulane University Greek Community participates in deferred recruitment, meaning entering first-time first semester freshmen may not join Tulane Fraternities and Sororities until they have completed at least 12 hours of coursework at Tulane University. Because academics are the number one priority, the Unviersity requires that students have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA to join, though some organzations maintain higher standards.
During Freshmen Orientation and during Fall 2008, there will be a variety of events, informational session and meetings where students may sign-up for more information and meet current members of the Tulane Greek Community. Those events and dates will be listed on the Greek Affairs Web site. Please do not hesitate to contact our office or an organization president with questions.

Hazing: What is it and What can we do to prevent it?
- Hazing within fraternities and sororities is a violation of Tulane University policy and Lousiana State law. It is not tolerated by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Programs.
- Hazing takes various forms, but typically involves physical risks or mental distress through, for example, humiliating, intimidating, or demeaning treatment.
- Hazing can cause significant harm to individuals, groups and the University.
- Hazing is not a "Greeks only" problem, it happens in athletic teams, performance groups, military, and other organizations.
- Groups that haze often view it as positive and necessary.
- Groups that haze can achieve the positive outcomes they seek from hazing through non-hazing means.
- The Tulane Presidents' Council has its own policy for how the Greek community at Tulane will eliminate hazing and hold each other accountable to safe practices.
Hazing is defined as any action or situation that recklessly or intentionally endangers the mental or physical health or safety of a student, willfully destroys or removes public or private property, or which could result in extreme embarrassment or ridicule to an individual for the purpose of initiation or admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continued membership in any organization, club, team or group, regardless of whether an individual participates in such activity willingly.
While the Office of Fratenrity and Sorority Programs cannot guarantee that hazing does not occur, it is certain that many steps are taken each year to educate chapter leadership and work with affected groups to solve any issues that may arise. Tulane exercises a zero tolerance policy on hazing and any alleged hazing incident is habndled with urgency.
