Dear Greek Student Leaders,

Fires occurred at two fraternity houses within the last five days. On New Year's Day at 9:15 p.m., a fire occurred at the KA House. On January 6 at 3:30 a.m., a fire occurred at the ZBT House. Neither house was occupied at the time of the fires and no injuries were reported. Both houses sustained fire, smoke, and water damage and will be uninhabitable as we begin the Spring semester. Causes of both fires are under investigation by the New Orleans Fire Department.

Staff in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Programs made contact with both chapter presidents, local and regional officers, and house corp. and national officers to apprise them of the incident. The fraternity members impacted have been offered on-campus housing.

Upon your return to campus, there will be a town hall meeting for all members of the Greek community to provide updates on the fires and answer questions. The University will make available a trained professional to conduct free and voluntary safety inspections of fraternity and sorority houses. Finally, from January 6-13, TUPD's patrol will include periodic external visual inspections of all fraternity and sorority houses as an additional safety precaution while houses remain unoccupied until students return for class.

Please feel free to call or e-mail me should you have any questions.

Sincerely,
Jacob
